This 1840 1d Black from Plate VII, lettered S-C, is a very fine used example with four large margins. It is cancelled by a neat, crisp Maltese Cross struck in bright crimson-red, an especially vivid and attractive shade of the obliterator. A lovely example of the first Penny Black.
