This 1840 1d Mulready letter sheet (A189) was sent on 22 May 1840 from Torquay to London, additionally bearing a large-margined 1d Black from Plate 1a, lettered G-B, neatly cancelled by a Maltese Cross in red. The front carries a ‘TORQUAY MY 22 1840’ c.d.s. and a boxed ‘NO 1′ hand-stamp, with a ’23 MY 1840’ receiving mark on the reverse. A Royal Certificate accompanies this rare and attractive sheet.
