A great rarity of the earliest posts: a Mulready sheet uprated with an additional Penny Black, accompanied by an expert certificate.
This 1840 1d Mulready letter sheet was sent from Chesterfield, dated ’31 DEC 1840′, to Southampton, arriving ‘1 JA 1841’, and carries an additional 1d Black from Plate IX affixed to the sheet to meet the higher rate. A David Brandon Certificate accompanies, and this very presentable example represents one of the true rarities of the period.
