This 1840 2d Mulready letter sheet was carried from Cambridge to Selby and is superb used, tied by a clear and crisp Maltese Cross cancellation struck in scarlet, one of the most sought-after of the early cancellation colours. It is back-stamped ‘CAMBRIDGE JA 3 1841’ in black, dating it to the earliest weeks of use. A rare and attractive item of the greatest appeal to the specialist.
