One of the most fascinating stamps of the 1914-1918 war, a deliberate double printing to remedy a misplaced overprint.
This 1914 Togo 2m. Blue, Type I overprint with 3mm space, shows the remarkable variety of ‘Occupation’ deliberately printed a second time to compensate for the downward misplacement of the first impression, which had left the word obscured by the perforations. It is the lower right corner example from the single sheet of twenty printed, tied to piece by a complete ‘LOME/TOGO’ c.d.s. dated ‘29.9.14’, and is accompanied by a Holcombe Certificate. A great rarity, one of just eight used examples recorded by Gibbs.
