This 1842 1d Red-Brown, with large margins, is tied to a neat, clean cover from Handsworth to Newport, Shropshire, cancelled by a black Maltese Cross together with a very fine strike of the framed PyP No. 15 in blue. The cover is backstamped ‘NEWPORT FE 2 1842’ (dispatch), ‘BIRMINGHAM FE 3’ (arrival) and bears a straightline ‘Handsworth’ in blue. A most appealing example of early postal history.
