A key Union of South Africa rarity, all the more desirable in its distinctive positional form.
This 1930-45 2d Slate-Grey & Lilac, ‘SUIDAFRIKA’ one word, rotogravure printing, is a lower marginal horizontal pair showing the error tête-bêche, from columns four and five with centre-guide at left. Unmounted mint and bearing the ‘B&K’ (Bridger and Kaye) hand-stamp on the reverse in the margin, it derives from the special plate for the 1931 3/- booklet (SB8), in which the last two columns were intentionally inverted to provide a left binding margin for panes of four. A key Union rarity, especially desirable in this positional form.
